5 great tips for a holistic beauty ritual.

What you radiate, you attract. This unwritten law of nature is closely connected to the holistic view of beauty that I have. Our body consists of physical and energetic layers that are perfectly connected to each other in a healthy state. But due to an abundance of information from our current zeitgeist and fixed patterns in our daily lives, disconnection can arise. You see a tired face in the mirror, but you don't know where it comes from. You have ailments that you can't quite place. Ultimately, this manifests itself on the surface of our largest organ: the skin. Where everyone can see it. The problem is usually not on the surface, but in deeper layers of your body and - often - of your mind. These are 5 great tips for a holistic beauty ritual.

Like many women, I think, I have 'good' and 'less good' days. On the good days I feel more confident and powerful. I kept track of this from the age of eight to sixteen, impossible, right? Seriously, I still have all the diaries in which I wrote down whether it had been a good or bad day. And the effect of it. On the good days I enjoyed school, made new friends and saw everything rosy. On the days that I thought I was ugly and had eczema, everything went wrong. I argued with my mother, thought my room was stupid and the whole world. I don't know if other women experience this too, but for me my appearance has always played a role in how I feel. Although external beauty may not be that important on the surface, it still has quite an impact on our daily lives. We all know that this is not what it is really about. But how you feel about yourself and what that skin looks like does have a real influence on our mood.

The skin: radiant from within

It is often said that the skin is a mirror of our soul and effortlessly shows whether we feel good. We blush when we are ashamed, our eyes become heavier when we are tired. And when we are stressed, the skin mercilessly reflects this. How wonderful it is to realize that during the very first development of the embryonic body, the brain, the nervous system and the skin are all formed from the same cells. And that this special connection reveals itself when our emotions radiate through the skin. You know how your skin glows when you are in love, or the way your skin becomes dull when life is against you and your energy is not flowing well. Where regular specialists focus on the science behind different skin types, I like to approach beauty in a holistic way. This means that I focus on the person behind the person and look at the deeper causes of skin problems.

Premature skin aging

Stressed skin heals more slowly and reacts faster due to the overproduction of cortisol. At the same time, cortisol undermines the skin's resistance, breaks down your collagen and causes premature skin aging. In addition to the way emotions and stress can affect your skin, your skin can also become irritated by an excess of skin care products, a food allergy or an excessive reaction to environmental factors. In short: a lot is happening in your skin!

5 Holistic and Fine Tips for Healthy and Radiant Skin

  1. Give your skin a breather every day
The first step to calming stressed skin is to take the time to give your skin a breather every day. Try to focus on your breathing for five minutes several times a day. It is nice to do this outside or by an open window. Take the time to breathe deeply, let fresh oxygen reach as far down as possible in your abdomen and then let the exhalation happen naturally. Give your skin time to fill up with oxygen. When your skin does not get enough oxygen, it is lifeless, tired and can start to show impurities.
  1. Protect your skin from the harmful effects of air pollution
Unfortunately, our outdoor air is low in oxygen and high in pollution. So make sure you use a day cream with ingredients that protect your skin well against air pollution. Such as a wild blueberry seed oil (Vaccinium Myrtillus Seed Oil) that is extracted from the seeds of the wild blueberry. Due to the high dose of antioxidants in this oil, damage to skin cells due to environmental pollution and UV light has less chance. The aging process is slowed down. Or think for example of the plant Gotu Kola that is also called Centella Asiatica or Indian pennywort. Gotu Kola is an adaptogen. This means that this plant belongs to a category of medicinal plants with a wonderful effect; they support the adaptability of humans to all kinds of changing circumstances, especially stressful situations.
  2. Cleanse your face immediately after returning home
Clean your face as soon as you get home and don't wait until you go to bed. By washing off your makeup and the dust of the day earlier than just before bed, your skin has more time to recover.
  3. Bathroom Bliss: create a wonderful space for inner peace and care
You often start your day in your bathroom and end it there too. Therefore, make sure you have a nice, clean bathroom and throw away all products with harmful substances. Put fresh flowers and a few beautiful stones (such as rock crystal). Let all your senses enjoy. Your sense of touch is pleased with towels, underwear and nightwear made of soft, natural fabrics. Also think of candlelight, essential oils and soft music. Beauty on all levels relaxes and nourishes your soul.
  4. Develop your ultimate skin glow plan: step by step to radiant skin
A good skin improvement plan includes cleaning out your bathroom cabinet. Without a skin analysis, or even without ever seeing you, I can tell you that the first step starts in your own bathroom. Throw away all care products that contain harmful substances. What that includes, you can read in this 'I'm-throwing-you-away-now' list .

Give yourself some extra care this week by listening to what your skin needs right now. Embrace yourself with gentle touches and let the warmth of tenderness envelop your face.
